In this study we continue our journey through the book of Galatians with a brief review of chapter 3, followed by a focused examination of Galatians 4:1–11.
The apostle Paul builds upon the truth of justification by faith, showing how God’s people are no longer servants under bondage, but sons and heirs through Christ. In chapter 4, Paul uses powerful illustrations to explain the transition from spiritual immaturity to full sonship, and he warns against returning to religious bondage after having known the liberty of the gospel.
In this message we consider:
The relationship between the law and the promise
The meaning of adoption as sons in Christ
The danger of returning to bondage after receiving the gospel
God’s purpose in sending His Son “in the fullness of time”
What it means to truly know God—and to be known by Him
This passage challenges us to examine whether our Christian experience is grounded in faith and grace, or whether we are subtly drifting back toward works-based religion.
